Olympiacos have severed ties with their football director, Antonio Miguel Cardoso, following an intense transfer window.
According to Portuguese news outlet O Jogo via Sport24.gr, Olympiacos' General Director of Football, Antonio Miguel Cardoso, has left the club following mutual termination of his employment.
The news conveyed that Olympiacos management sacked the director from his role at the club. The association with Cardoso began in June 2026, when he took on the position of General Director of Football Business and International Club Strategy. His assistants, Bernardo Martins and Diogo Queiroz, were also dismissed from their respective jobs at the club.
Cardoso played a key role in bringing several players into the squad this summer, including resolving certain technical issues within the club. Olympiacos underwent one of the busiest transfer windows in recent years, and newly appointed Cardoso managed relations with Evangelos Marinakis-owned Rio Ave while negotiating with tough sides to bring the likes of Gustavo Puerta, Joel Roca and Gustavo Sa, among others, to the club.
Cardoso left his director position at Portuguese outfit Vitória de Guimarães to join Olympiacos.
Meanwhile, in other news, Ligue 1 side Marseille are weighing a potential coup for Olympiacos midfielder Santiago Hezze. The Argentine was reportedly unsettled with the arrival of new faces in the summer, but head coach Imanol Alguacil has provided him with enough game time after deciding to keep him at the club.
Hezze could have replenished the Red and Whites' coffers, but the club actively decided on keeping him for the future since he is approaching the crucial years of his career. His performances at the Stade Velodrome against Marseille in Matchday 2 of the UEFA Europa League was enough for the French side to potentially shortlist him for the winter transfer window.
Reports suggest that Marseille are ready to send an offer worth 15 million euros to appease Olympiacos' demands for the player's sale. However, there is little credibility to the rumours unless Marseille makes an official bid to the Greek giants. The next two months are integral for this saga, and more news are expected to surface in the next few days.
The 24-year-old has rarely slipped up this season whenever he has got the chance to shine for Olympiacos. Despite the signings of Puerta and Remo Freuler, Hezze has been able to compete and largely maintain his spot in the starting eleven in a 4-2-3-1 setup.
It remains to be seen how Marseille proceed in this case as making contacts with the club and the player ahead of the transfer window is crucial to avoid competition.
