Armando 'La Hormiga' Gonzalez responds to critics after Olympiacos move. 'It doesn't matter what others say; I'm very happy to be here,' he said.
Armando 'La Hormiga' Gonzalez has fired back at the criticism over his recent transfer from Chivas to Olympiacos F.C. The Mexican striker responded to those who doubt it is the right move for his career.
Gonzalez, 23, arrived at Olympiacos for around $13 million, including bonuses. That's an amount the Greek giant doesn't pay for just any player, so it is clear they are betting on his talent.
In an interview with the Mexican outlet TUDN, 'La Hormiga' broke the silence and spoke fully about his transfer to Georgios Karaiskakis, ahead of his official debut.
"It doesn't matter what others say; in the end, what matters is what I'm going to do, and I'm very happy to be here," the player said about the opinions that emerged after his arrival at the Greek team was confirmed.
The striker acknowledged that Olympiacos' interest was a determining factor in accepting the proposal. Gonzalez pointed out that the club's insistence reflects its confidence in his performance and what he can contribute to the team.
He said, "If that team wants me so much, it's because they know what I can do, and they want me so much for a reason. So they want me a lot."
"They showed a lot of interest in me. That's why I didn't hesitate to take this opportunity. I always dreamed of it; I worked for it; I gave everything to get here, but this is still the beginning," he explained.
The Mexican striker also spoke about the personal meaning of his arrival at Piraeus. He highlighted the effort he put in throughout his career and said one of his greatest satisfactions is that his family can be with him at this moment. "I am very happy that all my family can see what I am achieving," he said.
In other news, Olympiacos sent a strong €8 million proposal for West Ham's Edson Alvarez, which gives them an advantage over Real Sociedad. The Mexican midfielder also sent positive signals about a move to Greece.
The 29-year-old midfielder, first reported by Spyros Gromitsaris and later confirmed by journalists Nikos Kotsis and Cesar Luis Merlo, is now a key transfer priority for the Piraeus side.
And now, according to Christian Vaquero, this proposal gives Olympiacos a big advantage over Real Sociedad, the other club interested in Alvarez.
Also, the player has reportedly spent the last few hours intensely asking for and looking for details about Greece. So, the fact that he is warming up to the idea of the Red and White side says a lot.
