Dani Garcia secures a swift move to Atromitos after struggling for form at Olympiacos.
According to an update by Athletiko.gr, Olympiacos parted ways with midfielder Dani Garcia through mutual contract termination. The Spaniard joined fellow Super League Greece side Atromitos on a free transfer after he was released by Thrylos.
Garcia was keen on the move to the Peristeri-based outfit, as he was already under the lens at Olympiacos for a drop in form. The 36-year-old joined the Greek giants from LaLiga side Athletic Bilbao in the summer of 2024 following the expiry of his contract with the club to reunite with his former Eibar head coach, Jose Luis Mendilibar, who had just led Olympiacos through an UEFA Conference League-winning campaign.
Garcia made 72 appearances at Olympiacos, scoring once, which came against Asteras Tripolis on 4 February 2026 in a 3-0 victory. However, he made three assists, winning one SLGR title, one Greek Cup and one Greek Super Cup.
A product of Real Sociedad's youth academy, Garcia went on to make his first-team debut for Alicante but was transferred to Getafe B. He returned to the Txuri-Urdin in July 2012, and was immediately loaned out to third-tier Spanish side SD Eibar, where he made over 200 appearances before moving to Athletic Bilbao on a six-year stint. Olympiacos took him in 2024, and Mendilibar gave him enough minutes to help him make an impact.
In other news, the Red and Whites are evaluating a potential transfer for former Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha. The 33-year-old is searching for a new club as a free agent after his loan tenure with MLS outfit Charlotte FC ended and his formal contract with Galatasaray expired.
The club has informed Imanol Alguacil that they have the funds available to do another signing before the HFF schedule deadline, which allows clubs to bring free agents until 29 September. The manager is right now yet to take a final call on Zaha's arrival, but he remains on the market set for a free transfer. The Ivorian winger played over 400 games for Crystal Palace over four spells with the club, two of which came on separate loan deals from Manchester United. He was also part of the Man United squad which won the 2013 FA Community Shield. During his time with Galatasaray, he helped the club win the Turkish Super Lig 2023-24 and the Turkish Super Cup 2023.
It remains to be seen whether Alguacil opts for another reinforcement to aid the wings as he already has the likes of Gelson Martines, Joel Roca, Jota Silva and Gustavo Sa vying for a starting spot.
