Olympiacos Officials eye a reunion with Thanasis Androutsos to bolster their homegrown ranks, though high valuation and playing time demands complicate the winter window pursuit.

According to an update by TransferFeed, Olympiacos are exploring the possibility of signing Thanasis Androutsos from OFI Crete after his recent performances with the Greek National Team.

The 29-year-old is a product of the Olympiacos youth academy and featured for the senior team between 2016 and 2025, including a loan spell at Atromitos during the 2019-20 campaign.

The Red and Whites are actively looking to widen their pool of Greek players in the squad, and the likes of Androutsos and Nikos Athanasiou are being heavily probed by the club. However, this remains a tricky route as Greek players would be demanding more game time, especially Androutsos, who faced playing time issues during his former spell at Thrylos.

While he starred over 25 times for Atromitos, scoring four goals, his return to the Olympiacos squad was again subdued, with a lack of game time. He was even registered with the Olympiacos B team from 2022 to 2024 and was later loaned out to VfL Osnabrück. Upon his return to Greece, it was clear that the Olympiacos management would sell him, and he made a permanent switch to the Cretan outfit.

Androutsos' transfer to the Piraeus-based club will not be an easy one if they decide to go forward with it during the winter window. OFI will set a high asking price, aiming to make a significant profit over his €1 million Transfermarkt valuation. Furthermore, Androutsos will require assurances from Olympiacos regarding game time to avoid a repeat of the earlier scenario.

In other news, Olympiacos are aiming to extend the contract of midfielder Santiago Hezze after he was quoted by the likes of Juventus, Villarreal and Olympique Marseille over the summer transfer window.

The Red and Whites opened up the future of the Argentinian, allowing other clubs to register an interest in him for a possible transfer, but now the Evangelos Marinakis-led club finds Hezze to be an integral part of the squad. He has been the anchor in midfield for Olympiacos, and talks of his departure came up when the Greek giants were negotiating with West Ham United for Edson Alvarez.

The Mexican captain became a topic of major discussion amongst the Olympiacos hierarchy following the signature of Armando 'La Hormiga' Gonzalez, who has remarkably performed well since arriving at the club from Chivas de Guadalajara. Despite this initial interest, Hezze's future at the club seems to be secure, as talks will begin soon with the player's entourage over a renewal.
