Lyon aim to leverage past successes to lure Roman Yaremchuk back to Ligue 1 from Olympiacos, as January transfer discussions intensify amid his struggles in Greece.

According to French sources via TransferFeed, Olympiacos forward Roman Yaremchuk has resurfaced as a potential transfer target for Olympique Lyon.

The Lyon side's officials are internally discussing an avenue for the player to return to the club in January after he spent the second half of last season on loan there. He made 11 official appearances, netting four times across all competitions.

The Ukrainian forward maintains an amicable relationship with Lyon, and the French outfit wants to leverage this to potentially materialise a transfer. However, the current situation is not without its own difficulties as Yaremchuk remains tied to Olympiacos with a long-term contract as he came from Club Brugge in the summer of 2024.

Following his arrival in Piraeus, he found it tough to get into former head coach Jose Luis Mendilibar's squad, eventually falling out of favour. He was reactivated to the squad list this season when the club management sat with him to resolve their respective differences. Ultimately, he was added to the group training sessions and has regularly featured in the list under manager Imanol Alguacil.

Meanwhile, in other news, Marseille are quoting Olympiacos midfielder Santiago Hezze for a potential winter transfer. The Argentine's performances in the Matchday 2 of the UEFA Europa League against the French side with the Red and Whites was enough to convince the Marseille management to establish contacts to test the waters for a transfer.

They are reportedly ready to pay over 15 million euros to Olympiacos for Hezze, but it remains to be seen how club president Evangelos Marinakis oversees the negotiations and what his demand for the player is.

The 24-year-old's place at Olympiacos was in jeopardy following their summer signings. However, he received assurances from Alguacil, who has given him reasonable game time, including a start against Marseille. The Greek giants are unwilling to part ways with the midfielder, and the player has also adjusted himself to the new reality in Olympiacos.

Despite the arrivals of Gustavo Puerta and Remo Freuler, Hezze has stayed professional, and has decided to fight for his spot in the starting eleven for every match. Since he was added to the European list, fans can expect to see more of him throughout the season. Dropping Lorenzo Scipioni for Hezze was also a noteworthy tactical decision amongst the squad to make him feel more at home.

As for the Yaremchuk news, we will keep this space updated whenever anything latest comes up.
