Free agent Marcelo Brozovic is sparking a high-stakes transfer battle as the Croatian veteran weighs a move to Olympiacos against offers from Europe’s elite following his Al-Nassr exit.

Marcelo Brozovic, 33, has emerged as a potential addition to Olympiacos' midfield, an area of the pitch that manager José Luis Mendilibar wants to bolster before the 2026-27 season begins. Several names of top European midfielders have been linked to Thrylos, including Brozovic and Moroccan star Sofyan Amrabat (as covered by Roundtable), who is currently on World Cup duty with his home country.

Brozovic, who last played for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, was recently released by the club with an official confirmation of his departure, and a note of thanks. The Croatian is currently a free agent, and, as reported by the media outlet Sport24, this has sparked interest among several top European clubs in securing the services of the veteran midfielder.

As reported by Sport24.gr, Olympiacos has made preliminary contacts with the midfielder’s camp. The reports say that there has not been any conclusive discussion or decision yet, and the preliminary contacts only explored the possibility of a move. The competition to secure Brozovic's services remains intense, with several other top European clubs also showing interest. This fierce competition was quite expected, given the stellar career and impressive stature that Brozovic has had over the last decade.

The midfielder started his career in his hometown of Zagreb in Croatia, playing for local clubs Hrvatski Dragovoljac, Lokomotiva Zagreb, and Dinamo Zagreb, before moving to Italy to play in the Serie A for Inter Milan.

During his 7-year spell with the Nerazzurri, Brozovic helped the club win multiple trophies, including one league title, two Coppa Italias, and two Supercoppa Italianas. He also became the first Croatian player to captain a side in the UEFA Champions League final when Inter faced Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League final of 2023.

In 2025, Brozovic made his move to Al-Nassr, where he won a further two trophies, including one Saudi Pro League title and one Arab Club Champions Cup. In addition to his club career, the midfielder was a key component of Croatia’s golden generation; he was an important player in the teams that reached the FIFA World Cup final in 2018 and finished as the bronze medalists in 2022. Brozovic retired from the national team in 2024.

It remains to be seen which club finally manages to secure the signature of Marcelo Brozovic. The tussle to get that, however, promises to be an interesting one, given the variety of clubs interested in his services.
