Olympiacos are preparing a €7 million bid for Francisco Moura, aiming to hijack Coventry City's interest and secure the Porto defender for a potential Champions League campaign.
Olympiacos are readying an offer to sign Porto left-back and Coventry City target Francisco Moura this summer.
According to a report by Portuguese newspaper Record via TransferFeed, Greek Super League giants Olympiacos are gearing up to send an offer worth €7 million to Porto FC in hopes of securing the services of Francisco Moura.
Journalist Sebastião Souza Pinto revealed that the Portuguese side wants a proposal that would earn them beyond €10 million in transfer fees. The Red and Whites' plan is to negotiate a season-long loan deal with Porto, and then agree on a formal buyout option for next summer. Olympiacos intend to find a settlement on that figure now.
Despite Olympiacos' long-term interest in acquiring Moura as a permanent signing next year, his current club, Porto, want a definite sale of the player in this transfer window. Meanwhile, Thrylos are not expected to face any problems in agreeing on personal terms with the 26-year-old, as he has shown a positive interest in playing in Greece.
Along with Olympiacos' strides in bringing the left-back into Jose Luis Mendilibar's squad ahead of the new campaign, newly promoted Premier League side Coventry City have also registered a firm interest in him. Although they have not prepared any bids to enter a transfer battle with the Piraeus club, Coventry City financially remain more than capable of derailing Olympiacos' plans for the player.
The Red and Whites were forced to look for a new reinforcement in left-back as Francisco Ortega decided to leave the club for his former side River Plate this summer, as per an earlier report on Roundtable. We also covered reports revealing that Olympiacos have identified Uruguayan left-back Matias Viña as a potential replacement for Ortega, but they will need to beat Spanish side Getafe to get the player from Flamengo.
Club president Evangelos Marinakis must now decide on the most feasible option among the ones on his shortlist. Olympiacos have already bought several players to strengthen the squad for the upcoming league season in Greece, and also a possible rewarding campaign in the UEFA Champions League should they beat Dutch outfit NEC Nijmegen in the second leg of the competition's third qualifying round.
The Greek giants could gain an advantage over other clubs in the race to sign Moura using the lure of Europe's top tournament, which their competitors cannot provide. More details are set to emerge in the next few days.
