Olympiacos target a homecoming for academy graduate, launching a permanent move to bolster defensive depth following the defender’s impressive stint with FC St. Pauli.
Olympiacos send an official offer to German outfit FC St. Pauli to acquire the services of their first-choice right back.
According to a report by Sport24.gr, Olympiacos have submitted a proposal to St. Pauli for securing the services of Manolis Saliakas on a permanent transfer this summer.
After signing Pablo Maffeo from Mallorca, the Red and Whites are in the market for a second right back to cement their depth in the area. However, it remains to be seen whether Saliakas would be open to trading a starting role at the German second division club for a homecoming ahead of the new season.
The 29-year-old graduated from Olympiacos' youth academy, and he played little for their senior team as he was sent to extensive loan deals at Limassol-based side Karmiotissa and then at Chania. After stints with Lamia and PAS Giannina, he moved to St. Pauli in 2022.
The Greek international has made 120 appearances for his current German team, scoring nine goals and assisting 12 times across all competitions. Last season, he was part of 20 Bundesliga matches, netting only once, although his side suffered relegation from the top flight.
Saliakas heads Olympiacos' wishlist this summer as they would like to have one of their former players back at the club without breaching the non-EU player quota rules. The Piraeus club are now waiting for St. Pauli's response, and more details are set to emerge in the coming days as the offer stays undisclosed for now.

In other news, Premier League newcomers Hull City have started negotiations with Olympiacos for the transfer of Konstantinos Tzolakis. The Greek giants are expected to name a price in the region of 30 million euros, a figure which should not be a major problem for English clubs to accept.
