Olympiacos target Sassuolo left-back Josh Doig but faces competition from Sunderland and Marseille for the defender, according to reports.

Olympiacos F.C. are interested in 24-year-old Serie A side Sassuolo left back Josh Doig.

According to reports, the Greek giants face strong competition from Premier League club Sunderland AFC and Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille. According to the Daily Record, all three clubs are keen on signing the former Hibs star.

The same report notes that Marseille had already tried to sign Doig in 2024, but Sassuolo won the race for his signature at the time for around £5 million.

Doig still has two years remaining on his contract with Sassuolo, but the Daily Record insists that Sunderland, Marseille and Olympiacos are all keeping tabs on him, who appears set to move this summer.

"The defender, who made his Scotland debut against Liechtenstein last year, still has two years left on his contract at Sassuolo. But Sunderland, Marseille and Olympiakos are all keeping tabs on Doig, who looks set to move on this summer," Daily Record's Scott McDermott wrote on Saturday.

Olympiacos’ interest has been reported following the sale of Francisco Ortega, 27, to River Plate, but Doig is not the only name linked with the Red and Whites.

According to different reports, Jose Luis Mendilibar’s team are working on signing Porto left-back Francisco Moura. Moura, 26, is also of interest to newly promoted Premier League side Coventry City.

That said, the latest developments in this case indicate that although Olympiacos have had preliminary talks with Porto over a potential transfer for Moura, nothing has been finalised and nothing has been decided between the two clubs, which is a breath of fresh air for Coventry City, who could take advantage and enter the negotiations fully.

Apparently, the Portuguese club values Moura at €10 million, which is a high and difficult figure for Olympiacos to pay. Previous reports indicated that Olympiacos were willing to pay Porto €7 million.

Well, we will see how this ends. Apparently, the Red and Whites are having difficulties finding Ortega’s successor and see both Moura and Doig as two potential and very interesting candidates.

Most likely, in this case, Olympiacos will have to either withdraw from the race for Doig or put up a very interesting amount of money for both Sassuolo and the player himself, because it is very difficult to compete with the opportunity to play in the Premier League.

In Marseille’s case, Thrylos are more likely to convince the player if those were the only two clubs interested, as reports from France indicate that Marseille are going through an economic crisis and their recent sporting projects have yielded absolutely nothing.
