Olympiacos continue summer rebuild with Hugo Bueno on their radar. Wolverhampton Wanderers have offered the defender for €10M but the fee is considered too high by the Greek side.
Olympiacos F.C. continue working to strengthen their squad during the summer transfer window with the goal of securing a place in the 2026-27 UEFA Champions League's league phase.
The Greek giants are very close to beginning their participation in the third qualifying round of Europe’s top club competition, where they will face NEC Nijmegen of the Netherlands.
As that moment approaches, the team managed by Jose Luis Mendilibar continue searching for options to strengthen the squad, as they believe there are still areas for improvement.
A recent report from Greece suggests Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. have offered one of the world’s best under-23 players in his position to the Red and Whites.
According to a report from SportTime, Hugo Bueno is an option for Olympiacos to strengthen the left-back position.
"Hugo Bueno is still on Olympiacos' list for the left wing of defense, but his situation is not easy," the cited outlet began explaining.
The report states that the 24-year-old Spaniard has been offered to Mendilibar’s side, but the main obstacle is the price Wolves have placed on the player.
The club, recently relegated to England’s Championship, has valued Bueno at €10 million, a fee Olympiacos considers too high.
The same report states that the Piraeus club could reconsider signing him if the English club lower their financial demands.
Until that happens, however, Bueno appears to be a very difficult option for Olympiacos.
According to the specialist outlet DataMB, Hugo Bueno is the best under-23 full-back in terms of accuracy of crosses.
Meanwhile, the club have secured the signing of 33-year-old goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, who arrives as a free agent after the expiration of his short-term contract with Nottingham Forest, Olympiacos’ sister club.
The Red and Whites are also on the verge of announcing the signing of talented Portuguese attacking midfielder Gustavo Sa from Famalicao, who will arrive on loan from Forest in one of Evangelos Marinakis’ typical operations as owner of both clubs.
Earlier this summer transfer window, Olympiacos and Nottingham Forest had already completed a couple of moves to strengthen the Greek side, facilitating the permanent signing of 27-year-old center back David Carmo for an undisclosed transfer fee.
They also completed the loan signing of 26-year-old Portuguese winger Jota Silva, with an option to buy.
Therefore, Olympiacos are strengthening their squad remarkably in terms of quality, but it remains to be seen how Mendilibar will use these players, as the Spanish coach has been consistently criticized in Greece for his tactical decisions despite having a squad considered good enough to deliver better results than those achieved, at least last season.
