Wolverhampton Wanderers are tipped to pay €16 million for an Olympiacos winger after Jorge Mendes' involvement. The agent is reportedly pushing for the deal.
Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly preparing a €16 million offer for an Olympiacos winger, according to recent reports.
Journalist Evangelos Michos revealed on Sportdog.gr that, amid reports claiming super agent Jorge Mendes had submitted a €15 million offer for 24-year-old Olympiacos winger André Luiz, he can now confirm that a new €16 million bid has been made.
According to the same report, shared by TransferFeed, Wolverhampton Wanderers are the only club capable of offering that kind of fee for the Brazilian winger, although this has not been officially confirmed.
"On 23.5, Evangelos Michos revealed on Sportdog.gr that information had been circulating for days that agent Jorge Mendes would present an offer for Andre Luis worth 15 million euros," the cited site began explaining.
"According to the column's information, an offer of 16 million euros has now been received for the player. It is reported that Wolves is the club capable of offering this amount, but it has not been confirmed if the offer is from them."
Previous reports claimed that Wolves had submitted a €15 million offer, so it would make sense for the Premier League club to slightly improve its bid to convince Olympiacos to sell the talented attacker.
Olympiacos has already begun its preseason preparations as the club looks to regain full fitness ahead of the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds.
André Luiz has been spotted in the photos and videos shared by the Greek club on social media during those training sessions.
Even so, it is widely understood that Luiz is not one of head coach José Luis Mendilibar’s preferred players, making it highly likely that he will leave the club this summer, with Wolves appearing to be his most likely destination.
That said, Wolves are not the only English club to have been linked with the Olympiacos winger. Previous reports have also mentioned Brentford and Sunderland as clubs monitoring the player’s situation.
If that is the case, the competition is fierce, as all three clubs play in the Premier League. Given that all of the interested teams are English, it seems increasingly likely that Luiz will end up playing in England.
Brentford and Sunderland, however, could have an advantage because of the financial strength Premier League clubs enjoy through television revenue, commercial partnerships, and other sources of income.
The winger, born in 2002, has a contract with the Red and Whites that extends until June 30, 2030. Despite his market value of €6 million on Transfermarkt, it seems that Wolves, Brentford, Sunderland, and any other interested club will have to offer much more than that for the Piraeus club to let him go.
