This would be a wild turn of events.
Jason Whitlock wrote on X that the Indiana Fever are planning to trade Caitlin Clark to the Los Angeles Sparks.
Whitlock also said that the Sparks could fire Lynne Roberts and hire UCLA coach Cori Close.
Whitlock's post comes one day after Dallas Mavericks guard Klay Thompson's dad, two-time NBA champion Mychal Thompson, said the Fever are done with Clark.
Mychal covers the Los Angeles Lakers on the radio. He's also around the Sparks a lot, so it's feasible he has sources in the WNBA.
A lot is going on with the Fever right now. Sophie Cunningham told local reporters that Indiana had a team meeting on Monday. The team meeting took place after Clark and head coach Stephanie White got into a heated sideline exchange during the Portland Fire game over the weekend.
The Fever signed Clark to a four-year, $338,056 contract in 2024. Clark is making $528,846 this season. She will make $597,596 next season and then enter restricted free agency.
Indiana is 5-4 on the season, while Los Angeles is 4-5. It's worth mentioning that Clark and Sparks star Kelsey Plum are close friends.
Los Angeles has a bigger media market than Indiana. Clark would make more money off the court if she played for the Sparks, but this rumor from Whitlock is dubious since he's never broken WNBA news before.
Clark is averaging 19.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 8.1 assists per game on the season while shooting 38.7% from the field, 32.3% from beyond the arc and 93.3% from the free-throw line. She played in only 13 games last season due to injuries.
A two-time All-Star, Clark vomited on Thursday during halftime of the Fever-Atlanta Dream game. Indiana snapped its two-game losing streak by beating Atlanta at home. Clark finished with 17 points, seven rebounds and eight assists in 31 minutes.
"I haven't puked that much in a really long time," Clark said. "But then I felt fine. I felt light. So, I was running around feeling good in the second half, but [I] feel OK. Obviously, I'm losing my voice a little bit. But I'll be good."
It will be fascinating to see if Mychal and Whitlock are right and the Fever trade Clark. The 24-year-old Clark was the first overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft after setting the all-time NCAA record for career points at Iowa. She was named Rookie of the Year and is one of the world's most famous athletes.
