LIV Golf says its 2026 season is secure, but fresh comments from CEO Scott O’Neil have raised new doubts about the league’s long-term future.
LIV Golf’s future is back under the microscope after comments from CEO Scott O’Neil appeared to reinforce growing questions about the league’s financial outlook beyond the 2026 season.
While LIV Golf continues to insist its current schedule is intact, recent reports and public remarks have shifted attention from this year’s events to whether the Saudi-backed circuit can maintain momentum heading into 2027.
The latest scrutiny arrived during LIV Golf Mexico City, where the league pushed back hard against reports suggesting Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund could soon stop bankrolling the operation.
On-air talent defended the tour’s stability, and O’Neil also projected confidence in LIV’s current position. But a separate interview clip painted a more complicated picture.
In that exchange, O’Neil acknowledged LIV Golf is funded through the end of the 2026 season and suggested the league must now prove it can operate with a sustainable business model moving forward.
That remark quickly became a focal point, especially after a shortened version of the interview later surfaced without the line referencing future funding.
The timing only added to the intrigue. Earlier reports indicated LIV Golf would complete its 2026 calendar, but support from the PIF may not extend beyond that point.
O’Neil also sent a message to staff stressing that the season remains on track and that the organization is moving ahead at full speed despite outside speculation.
For now, LIV Golf still has a full slate ahead. After Mexico City, the league is scheduled to play eight more events before wrapping up its season on Aug. 30 in Michigan.
That gives the tour time to keep the focus on competition, but it doesn’t erase the uncertainty hanging over what comes next.
The bigger question now isn’t whether LIV Golf will finish 2026. It’s whether the league can build enough financial and commercial strength to make 2027 look like a certainty instead of a mystery.
