Matt Fitzpatrick takes a slim lead into Sunday at the RBC Heritage, with Scottie Scheffler charging and proven contenders lining up a final-round push.
Matt Fitzpatrick carries the lead into Sunday at the RBC Heritage, but Harbour Town still feels wide open with Scottie Scheffler right behind him and several proven names within striking distance.
Fitzpatrick enters the final round at 14-under after a third-round 68, while Scheffler climbed into the final pairing with a sharp 7-under 64 that trimmed the gap to three shots.
That setup gives the RBC Heritage leaderboard a big-game feel. Fitzpatrick has been steady through 54 holes, but Scheffler’s form makes him impossible to ignore after last week’s runner-up finish at the Masters.
The world No. 1 looked far more aggressive on Saturday, taking advantage of soft scoring conditions and putting himself in position to pressure the leader from the opening holes.
Brian Harman made the biggest move of the day with an 8-under 63, the lowest round posted Saturday. Even with that surge, Harman remains four back, a reminder of how many players have gone low this week at Harbour Town Golf Links.
With birdie chances available across the course, Sunday’s final round should offer opportunities for anyone who gets hot early.
The weather could add a wrinkle. Forecasts call for mostly cloudy skies to begin the day, with wind expected to build later and a slight chance of showers in the afternoon.
That may not completely change scoring, but it could make club selection and late-round execution more difficult for the final groups.
Among the chasers, Andrew Novak and Patrick Cantlay are worth watching. Novak, last year’s runner-up, bounced back with a 65 on Saturday and has shown he can make birdies in bunches at this event.
Cantlay, meanwhile, has gained 2.73 strokes tee-to-green through three rounds and continues to lean on his reliable ball-striking. If his putter wakes up, he could make a serious push for a top finish.
Sunday at the RBC Heritage now sets up as a showdown, with Fitzpatrick trying to finish the job and Scheffler looming every step of the way.
