    The Dodgers evened the World Series against the Blue Jays after fighting through an early pitching duel

    The Toronto Blue Jays were unable to secure a multi-game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series in Game 2 of the best-of-seven series on Saturday at Rogers Centre in Toronto.

    The Blue Jays fell to the Dodgers 5-1 the visitors scored four runs total in the seventh and eighth innings.

    The World Series will head to Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles tied 1-1. Games 3, 4 and 5 will all be played in Los Angeles.

    The two sides were locked into a pitching duel for most of the game. Catcher Will Smith hit an RBI single in the top of the first to pull the Dodgers ahead 1-0.

    Toronto tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the third. Catcher Alejandro Kirk brought home designated hitter George Springer with an RBI sacrifice fly.

    Those runs were the only runs allowed by Blue Jays starting pitcher Kevin Gausman and Los Angeles starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, respectively, for most of the game.

    That pitching duel continued through the seventh inning. Smith broke the tie with a solo home run to left field to give the Dodgers a 2-1 lead. Third baseman Max Muncy also hit a solo home run to left field that bolstered Los Angeles' lead to 3-1.

    Muncy's home run marked the end of the day for Gausman. He finished the game with six strikeouts and allowed three earned runs on four hits (two homers) in 6.2 innings pitched.

    The Dodgers bolstered their lead against the Toronto bullpen.

    Jeff Hoffman entered the game with the bases loaded and one out. Hoffman threw a wild pitch on the first pitch of his outings that center fielder Andy Pages scored on.

    Smith had his third RBI of the game and hit into a fielder's choice that Shohei Ohtani scored on. That play resulted in the eventual final of 5-1.

    Gausman's opponent, Yamamoto, was able to complete his outing.

    Yamamoto went the full nine innings, fanned eight and allowed one earned run on four hits on 105 pitches (73 strikes). It was the second consecutive complete game-outing for Yamamoto.

    Game 3 of the World Series will take place at 8 p.m. ET on Monday at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles. Max Scherzer will start for the Blue Jays and Tyler Glasnow will start for Los Angeles.
