The 2025 season all comes down to this.
The Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers are set to play Game 1 of the best-of-seven World Series at 8 p.m. ET on Friday at Rogers Centre in Toronto.
The Dodgers, who won the World Series in 2024, will have an opportunity to defend their crown and the Blue Jays will have a chance to win their first championship since 1993.
Blake Snell will start for Los Angeles and Trey Yesavage will start for Toronto.
When Yesavage takes the hill, he'll make MLB history.
According to a post on "X" from Sarah Langs (@SlangsOnSports), Yesavage will be the first player in MLB history to start Game 1 of the World Series within his first seven career outings.
Friday will be his fourth postseason start. No other pitcher in MLB history has made multiple postseason starts within his first seven outings. At this point in his career, Yesavage, who was selected with the 20th overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, has had more outings in the playoffs than he did in the regular season.
In his three regular season starts, Yesavage has posted as 3.21 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 14 innings pitched.
In the playoffs, Yesavage has a 4.20 ERA and has fanned 22 batters in 15 innings across three starts.
Yesavage began the season in Single-A and steadily progressed through the Blue Jays' farm system. He had a 3.12 ERA and struck out 160 batters in 98 innings pitched across 25 outings (22 starts) in the minor leagues. Toronto selected his contract on Sept. 15.
Yesavage's opposition, Snell, has been one arguably the best pitcher in the playoffs this year.
Snell has posted a 0.86 ERA and has fanned 28 batters in 21 innings pitched across three starts.
