The Milwaukee Brewers' elite defense takes center stage as Brice Turang chases his second trophy while rising star Jackson Chourio eyes one of his own.
It feels like Joey Ortiz got snubbed of a potential Gold Glove Award in 2026, but that only further proves why Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy consistently calls this team underdogs.
No matter how well they perform in the regular season, everything is judged off rings, and that's something the Brewers don't have.
This season, things seem to be changing. Milwaukee jumped out to a commanding 2-0 lead in the National League Championship Series, and ahead of Game 3 in Los Angeles, second baseman Brice Turang and left fielder Jackson Chourio were named Gold Glove finalists.
Turang eyes second Gold Glove with Brewers
Back in 2024, Turang was named a Gold Glove Award winner in what was the first major accomplishment of his young career.
Now, he's back to win his second piece of hardware. The 26-year-old has been with Milwaukee since his rookie year in 2023, and he's consistently proved why he's one of, if not the best second baseman in all of baseball.
Shockingly, the entire second base trio of finalists is all in the NL Central. Turang is competing against Brandon Lowe and JJ Wetherholt.
Wetherholt may have led all of baseball with his +25 outs above average, but Turang was second in the league with his +23 which led all second baseman.
Competition wise, Lowe, 32, was tied with Turang and Jazz Chisholm Jr. with his +15 OAA at second base.
Chourio has his work cut out for him
Brewers fans know Chourio isn't the best defender in the world, but there's no doubt he took a huge leap forward this season.
The 22-year-old sensation sported career highs with his +9 fielding run value and his +7 OAA.
Obviously, one can see the difference between him and Turang alone in terms of OAA, but for Chourio's sake, he's only worried about left field finalists Ian Happ and Daylen Lile.
Happ had the eighth most outfield assists in the league this season (nine) and is on the verge of a fifth consecutive Gold Glove award.
Lile started 124 games in left field this year, but the 23-year-old doesn't exactly bring a ton to the table that could rival Chourio.
So, it's safe to assume this battle will come down to Chourio vs. Happ, but it's not looking good for the Brewers superstar.
At the end of the day, just being named a finalist shows all of his hard work is paying off, and there's still a chance he goes home with hardware on Sunday, Nov. 1.
