Milwaukee Brewers manager, ahead of 2026 MLB season opener, discussed Jackson Chourio's injury situation. Chourio talked, too.
It isn't the way that the Milwaukee Brewers wanted to start this new season, seeing one of their young players go right on the Injured List from the get-go.
But that's what is happening as on Thursday, Jackson Chourio was placed on the 10-day Injured List due to a fractured hand.
Ahead of the Brewers' home opener on Thursday against the Chicago White Sox, Brewers manager Pat Murphy addressed the situation around Chourio's injury.
"Things gonna happen, you know," Murphy said at a press conference. "Things are gonna happen and you have to not flinch. I'm disappointed for the kid because he was so excited about this season, coming off the WBC the way he did.
"It's really, we looked a little deeper because he still has some soreness," Murphy continued. "And looking deeper, he got an MRI, he's got a slight fracture in there, a hairline fracture. If you don't address it, it could lead to something really serious."
Murphy said he and the ballclub made a decision to let Chourio have more time to recover from his injury.
Chourio, through his interpreter, told reporters on Thursday, "I feel really good, I feel even better than I thought I would. I think it was a checked swing that bothered me a little bit."
Chourio indicated that at the moment the injury happened, it was painful.
"But since then, it's gotten much, much better," Chourio said. "It's gotten significantly better to the point where I hardly feel anything. But, like I said earlier, I had that checked swing that felt a little bit bothersome and got it checked out again."
Chourio additionally said that while it's sad that he's out of the lineup right now, it's not going to keep him from supporting his teammates in the clubhouse.
The Brewers are in search of equaling or improving upon their 97-win season in 2025. They'd also like to go further than the National League Championship Series, too.
On Thursday, fans will stream into American Family Field in Milwaukee to watch the Brew Crew try and record their first win of the season.
