William Contreras sparked a high-pressure celebration as the Milwaukee Brewers secured their fourth straight National League Central crown.
The Milwaukee Brewers celebrated another National League Central title in wet and wild fashion after defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-1 on Tuesday at PNC Park.
William Contreras led the festivities by grabbing a hose after the victory and spraying high-pressure water across the field.
Milwaukee had more reason than usual to celebrate. Beating Pittsburgh officially secured another National League Central title and made the Brewers division champions for the fourth consecutive season.
No other team in the division can claim the same accomplishment during that period. Milwaukee once again demonstrated its superiority over its divisional rivals.
A solid effort all around
Contreras contributed to the victory by going 1-for-5 with a double and a run scored. However, the Brewers’ pitching staff delivered the most important performance.
Jacob Misiorowski threw five scoreless innings, surrendering a hit with seven strikeouts and a walk. Three Milwaukee relievers protected the lead after he left the mound, and Pittsburgh did not score until the eighth inning.
Misiorowski, a National League Cy Young candidate, improved to 15-5 with a 1.89 ERA and 0.81 WHIP in 166.1 innings over 28 starts. He has recorded 243 strikeouts against 42 walks.
Contreras has elevated his performance again during the second half of the season. After struggling during the second half of 2025, the 28-year-old reestablished himself among MLB’s most productive catchers.
He is hitting .272 with 17 home runs and 86 RBIs in 138 games this season.
Milwaukee’s work is not finished. The Brewers remain focused on securing the best overall record in MLB. Tuesday’s victory improved them to 94-57, placing them two games ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers and 2.5 games in front of the Tampa Bay Rays.
Contreras’ value
Contreras brings considerably more than offensive production to Milwaukee. Catching requires preparation, communication and the ability to remain engaged on every pitch.
He must understand opposing hitters, work alongside different pitchers and recognize when the game demands a change in approach.
His durability is particularly valuable because of the physical punishment associated with the position. Contreras handles that responsibility while remaining an important presence in the middle of the Brewers’ lineup.
He also possesses the strength to punish mistakes without depending exclusively on power. His offensive approach allows him to contribute through competitive at-bats and consistent pressure on opposing pitchers.
The improvement he has shown since his difficult second half last season reflects his resilience. Contreras responded to adversity by making adjustments and rebuilding his effectiveness rather than allowing those struggles to define him.
His postgame celebration also captured the energy surrounding Milwaukee. Contreras combines talent, toughness and personality, making him an important part of a Brewers team pursuing goals beyond another division title.
