Expectations for Three Milwaukee Brewers Rotation Pitchers cover image

The exit of Freddy Peralta and Tobias Myers will provide a chance for others to step up in the Milwaukee Brewers' rotation.

As pitchers and catchers for the Milwaukee Brewers gear up to report for their first workout on Feb. 12 as members of the Cactus League in Phoenix, Ariz., I will be taking the time leading up to that time to evaluate to evaluate expectations for the remaining pitchers on staff.

With Freddy Peralta gone, I made sure to highlight the expectations surrounding the team’s rotational leader, Brandon Woodruff, and his need to have a healthy season. I also wrote about newcomers Brandon Sproat and Angel Zerpa.

Additionally, I emphasized the expectations of young returners like Jacob Misiorowski, Logan Henderson, Quinn Priester and Robert Gasser. Now, it is time to look at what to expect from Chad Patrick, Carlos Rodriguez and Coleman Crow.

Chad Patrick, RHP: Patrick made rounds in the minor league systems of the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Athletics after the former drafted him with the 107th pick in the fourth round of the 2021 MLB Draft out of Purdue.

On Nov. 15, 2023, the Brewers traded third baseman Abraham Toro to the Athletics for Patrick, and he spent the 2024 season lighting up the mound for Triple-A Nashville. In 26 games (24 starts) Patrick amassed a 14-1 record with a 2.90 ERA through 136.1 innings of work.

Patrick’s standout season earned him the 2024 International League Pitcher of the Year award. On March 29, 2025, Patrick made his MLB debut.

The 27-year-old appeared in 27 games and made 23 starts for the Brewers last season. In that time, he registered a 3-8 record with a 3.53 ERA in 119.2 innings pitched. In the playoffs, he appeared in six games, striking out 11 batters while only allowing one walk and three hits through nine total innings of work.

Patrick utilizes an extensive arsenal that provides him with six different pitch types to work with while on the mound. A cutter is his go-to (41.1% usage rate according to Baseball Savant), and he also has excellent fastball run value.

Patrick demonstrated promising signs in 2025 despite declining results during a much smaller sample size in Triple-A. The expectation is that Patrick continues to develop into a reliable rotational piece and not fall victim to a sophomore slump.

Carlos Rodriguez, RHP: Rodriguez is another product of the Brewers’ system. The organization selected him with the 177th pick in the sixth round of the 2021 MLB Draft and, upon making his MLB debut on June 11, 2024, Rodriguez has struggled on a big-league mound.

Rodriguez made three starts for the Brewers in 2024 and earned losing decisions in each of them after allowing three homers and 10 earned runs in just 12.1 innings. He finished the season with a 7.30 ERA.

Rodriguez spent most of his time in the minors last season but did make four appearances with the Brewers, though none of them were starts. In those four games, Rodriguez went 1-0 but still struggled to keep opposing offenses in check. He finished the season with a 6.52 ERA after allowing seven runs in 9.2 innings.

Rodriguez is only 24 years old, so he still has plenty of time to turn it around, but the expectation is that he will develop into a more reliable pitcher. Otherwise, he may be relegated to the minors or designated for assignment.

Coleman Crow, RHP: Crow has yet to make his MLB Debut, and injuries have reduced his availability to just 12 games over the last two seasons. Despite it all, he is still what MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy described as an "exciting" pitching prospect last April.

Crow’s best display of his talent came with Double-A Biloxi last season, where he went 4-0 with a 2.51 ERA and a 0.91 WHIP through 10 starts. It is unclear how Crow would fair in the Majors at this point, and the biggest expectation for him in 2026 should be a healthy season so he can continue to develop.
