Mets pitcher immediately upgrades bullpen situation for Dodgers going into next season.

UPDATE 8:16 p.m. ET:  Edwin Díaz has officially signed a three-year contract worth $69 million with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday. The three-time All-Star was with the New York Mets last season, where he posted a 1.63 ERA.

It looks like the Los Angeles Dodgers have decided to go all in on one of baseball's best relievers.

According to a report on Tuesday morning from ESPN baseball reporter Jorge Castillo, the Dodgers are in agreement with New York Mets ace reliever Edwin Díaz on a deal.

This has not been confirmed by the Dodgers at this time, but Díaz has been one of the most coveted free agents on the board. Díaz's deal reportedly is for three years and worth $69 million.

ESPN baseball insider Jeff Passan released reported details on the Diaz deal with the Dodgers on Tuesday morning.

"After opting out of the final two years of the five-year deal he signed in 2022, Díaz has a chance to once again become the sport’s highest-paid closer," according to an article from The Athletic.

"After missing all of 2023 thanks to a torn knee ligament, and enduring some inconsistency in 2024, Díaz pitched like his best self in 2025," according to the article. "His ERA was comfortably under 2.00 (1.63), his strikeout rate was 38 percent, and he converted 28 of his 31 save chances.

"Díaz’s velocity has dipped since the knee injury and his transcendent 2022 season, but the mix of his four-seam and his wiffle-ball slider works just so long as he can throw them for strikes."

In an article from Mets Roundtable, the chatter in recent days has been around the Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays when it comes to Diaz.

"The Dodgers are among the teams that have shown serious interest in Díaz, The Post has learned," MLB reporter Jon Heyman wrote for the New York Post. "The Blue Jays, who lost in the World Series to the Dodgers, also are involved for the best reliever on the market."

According to the Mets Roundtable article, Heyman previously projected Díaz to sign a four-year, $80 million deal in free agency, and the Dodgers and Blue Jays have both shown their willingness to spend big, even after both teams made the World Series.

Díaz is a three-time All Star, and he had a 6-3 record with a 1.63 ERA in 2025 along with 28 saves.
