San Francisco Giants prospect Jacob Bresnahan capped a dominant August at High-A Eugene before earning a promotion to Double-A.
Jacob Bresnahan continues to give the San Francisco Giants plenty of reason to be excited about his development.
The 21-year-old left-hander has quickly established himself as one of the organization's most promising pitching prospects, and his latest stretch at High-A Eugene provided another strong indication of his progress.
Bresnahan finished August by earning Northwest League Pitcher of the Month honors after putting together four impressive starts. He posted a 2.86 ERA during the month while limiting opposing hitters to a .175 batting average. His 0.95 WHIP and 10.2 strikeouts per nine innings also ranked among the league's best marks.
His success was not limited to August. Bresnahan allowed one earned run or fewer in 11 of his 20 appearances for Eugene during the season, consistently finding ways to keep hitters from producing hard contact.
That consistency has been a major part of Bresnahan's development since joining the Giants organization.
San Francisco acquired the lefty from the Cleveland Guardians at the 2024 Trade Deadline in the deal that sent veteran pitcher Alex Cobb to Cleveland. At the time, Bresnahan was not considered one of the Guardians' top 30 prospects, but his trajectory changed considerably after entering the Giants' system.
Bresnahan has since moved rapidly through the organization, developing into the Giants' No. 9 prospect and becoming one of the youngest pitchers in the system to reach the upper levels of the minors.
His fastball has been an important part of that progression. Bresnahan has seen the pitch develop significantly as he has matured physically, with the four-seamer regularly sitting in the 93-95 mph range. He has been able to use it effectively near the top of the strike zone, where its movement creates problems for opposing hitters.
The fastball has also become a strong complement to his changeup, which has emerged as perhaps his most impressive secondary offering.
Bresnahan's changeup has developed into a legitimate weapon against hitters from both sides of the plate. He does an effective job of taking velocity and spin off the pitch while maintaining an arm action that makes it difficult for hitters to distinguish from his fastball.
The combination has helped Bresnahan miss bats while also limiting the quality of contact against him.
His overall production since the beginning of the 2025 season illustrates just how quickly he has progressed. Over that span, Bresnahan owns a 2.84 ERA, one of the best marks in the minors among pitchers with significant innings during the period.
He has also shown an ability to consistently generate strikeouts. Across his combined work over the past two seasons, his strikeout rate ranks among the highest in the Minors among pitchers with at least 190 innings.
Bresnahan's recent promotion to Double-A Richmond now represents the next major test in his development.
After dominating at each previous stop, he will have an opportunity to prove that his fastball-changeup combination and improved command can continue to play against more advanced hitters.
Considering how quickly Bresnahan has progressed since arriving in San Francisco, another strong showing in Richmond could further elevate his status within the Giants' organization.
