Dominant pitching and timely hits from Rafael Devers and Drew Cavanaugh fueled a series-clinching victory for the San Francisco Giants.
The San Francisco Giants' 3-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds not only gave them a series victory against a potential Wild Card contender, but it also marked the first time they've won back-to-back games since July 29-30.
It's been nearly a full month since that happened, and it's arguably far more impressive this time around knowing they're without stars like Bryce Eldridge and Willy Adames.
After chasing Chase Burns in under four innings the night prior, the Giants pitching staff once again dominated while Rafael Devers stayed hot and Drew Cavanaugh put together a three-hit night with a pair of RBIs.
Adrian Houser served as the team's opener, so to speak, allowing just one hit in the five outs he recorded. He's set to undergo an MRI on his right arm today, but thankfully for the Giants, Anthony Molina stole the show in his 4.1 innings of work.
Molina earns his first win with the Giants
Molina, 24, is already on his third big-league team and he's only been in the league since 2024. The Venezuelan native has only started two of the 56 games he's appeared in, but he's thrown 103.2 innings, which goes to show just how long he's been in some of these games, whether he was the true starter or not.
In his first appearance with the Giants, he pitched an absolute gem and walked out with his first win since August 17, 2025.
Arguably the most impressive part about this game is the fact that the Reds only had four hits, and not a single Giants pitcher allowed more than one hit. Houser allowed one, as did Molina, and then Sam Hentges and Carson Seymour allowed one each while Trent Harris was perfect in his inning of work.
A lot of these names may sound relatively new to Giants fans, and for good reason. Molina picked up his first win with the team while Harris recorded his first hold and Seymour got his first save. Together, that trio has pitched in 34 career games while a guy like Houser has pitched in 26 for the Giants this year alone.
Cavanaugh and Devers deliver
In an eight-hit night for the Giants, these two combined for four of those hits and drove in all three of the team's runs.
Devers went 1-for-3 on the night with another solo home run. He drew a walk and had two runs in the game.
Cavanaugh was unstoppable as he reached base in all four of his plate appearances, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk.
Should the Giants defeat the Reds in the series finale, it would mark their first sweep since September 26-28, 2025.
