Former Seattle Mariners All-Star slugger Daniel Vogelbach has accepted a new coaching position in the Milwaukee Brewers organization, per Brewers reporter Adam McCalvy:
The Brewers have announced some major changes to Pat Murphy’s coaching staff, including the addition of Daniel Vogelbach as a new hitting coach. More to come soon.
Vogelbach is getting in with a good organization, as the Brewers have won the National League Central in back-to-back years. They had the best record in baseball in 2025, but lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series.
Vogelbach had served as a hitting assistant for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2025.
Still just 33 years old, Vogelbach spent nine years in the big leagues with the Mariners, Toronto Blue Jays, Brewers, Pirates, and New York Mets. He made his biggest impact with the Mariners, hitting 30 home runs and driving in 76 runs in the 2019 campaign. He appeared in 144 games that season, though he hit just .208. He made the All-Star team that season, serving as the lone representative for Seattle.
MORE MARINERS STORIES:
That season was the beginning of the M's rebuild, as they tore the roster down after 2018, trading away Edwin Diaz, Robinson Cano, James Paxton and Jean Segura. Those deals helped net the Mariners the likes of J.P. Crawford, Jarred Kelenic and Justus Sheffield, with Crawford still in the organization today.
The M's went 68-94 that season, finishing last in the American League West. They eventually made the playoffs again in 2022, losing to the Houston Astros in the American League Divisional Series.
The Mariners traded Vogelbach in 2020 after 18 games of the COVID-shortened season.
--With just five weeks remaining until spring training, the Mariners still have questions to answer. Are they really confident with both Cole Young and Colt Emerson/Ben Williamson in the infield? Can they trade for Ketel Marte or Brendan Donovan? And how about another bullpen arm?
--We will tackle some of those questions on the upcoming episode of the 'Refuse to Lose' podcast, which is Monday night at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT.
--The M's biggest rivals, the Houston Astros, just announced their signing of Japanese starting pitcher Tatsuya Imai, while the Blue Jays announced the signing of infielder Kazuma Okamoto.
--The World Baseball Classic is slated to begin in early March and several M's will be representing their national teams, including Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodriguez, Randy Arozarena, Matt Brash, Josh Naylor and Michael Arroyo. Others could join the mix as well.
