The Seattle Mariners are coming off arguably their most successful season in franchise history.
The Mariners won their first American League West title and made their first American League Championship Series since 2001.
Seattle manager Dan Wilson became the third skipper in the history of the franchise to lead his team to the postseason and the only one aside from Lou Piniella to guide the organization to the ALCS.
The other manager aside from Wilson and Piniella to lead the Mariners to the postseason, Scott Servais, was with Seattle from 2016-24.
Under Servais, the Mariners broke their then-21-year playoff drought in 2022. Servais was fired as manager on Aug. 22, 2024, and replaced with Wilson.
Servais spent most of his tenure as manager overseeing a rebuild in which Seattle established the foundation of players that helped guide the club to the ALCS this year.
Servais spent 2025 as a special assistant for player development with the San Diego Padres, but he could find his way back in a dugout for 2026.
Servais is reportedly a finalist for the managerial job with the Minnesota Twins.
According to a report from New York Post MLB insider Jon Heyman, Servais could also receive a promotion from the Padres.
Heyman reported that Servais is a candidate for the open managerial job with San Diego, along with Albert Pujols, Ryan Flaherty, Nick Hundley, Ruben Niebla and Brian Esposito.
Niebla is the pitching coach for the Padres and Esposito is the third base coach. Hundley and Flaherty also have ties to the organization. Hundley was a former catcher for Sna Diego and Flaherty was the team's bench coach, a role he currently has with the Chicago Cubs.
Servais would be in a different position with San Diego than he was with the Mariners or he would be with the Twins.
While with Seattle, Servais spent most of his tenure seeing a team that was constantly rebuilding and retooling for the future. Minnesota was the biggest seller at the trade deadline this year and is expected to be in a rebuild at least for next year.
The Padres have made the playoffs three of the last four seasons.
