Pitching coach Pete Woodworth and director of pitching strategy Trent Blank will return to the club in 2026

The Seattle Mariners have an important offseason in front of them.

Coming off a great postseason run, which included the team making it to Game 7 of the American League Championship Series, there's added pressure for the Mariners to make the necessary moves to replicate and exceed that success in 2026.

The Mariners have yet to make any major moves aside from some potential back-end bullpen help.

The biggest moves involving the franchise so far have pertained to the front office and coaching staff.

Seattle lost assistant general manager Andy McKay, who took a job as field coordinator for the Cleveland Guardians.

On the heels of that loss, the Mariners were able to keep two of the most crucial coaches on the staff.

According to an article from Seattle Times reporter Ryan Divish, Seattle was able to bring back pitching coach Pete Woodworth and director of pitching strategy Trent Blank.

Both Woodworth and Blank's contracts were up at the end of this year. According to Divish's report, the pair of coaches were coveted by "several teams," but the Mariners were able to bring both back.

Woodworth has been with Seattle for nearly a decade. He was hired by the organization June 22, 2016, and spent several years in the minor leagues before he was hired as the major league pitching coach Nov. 7, 2019. He's served in that role since.

Blank has been with the Mariners for five years. He served as the team's bullpen coach before his current role. Former Seattle catcher Aaron Nola will take over as bullpen coach this upcoming season.

Woodworth and Blank have been crucial to the organization and their value to the team was on display this season. Four of the five members of the starting rotation missed time with respective injuries and several more relievers spent time on the injured list.

Pitching has been the strength of the organization for several seasons and there's more top 100 prospects that will join the rotation in the next several seasons.

Switch-pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje, right-hander Ryan Sloan and left-hander Kade Anderson are all top 100 pitching prospects, and are projected to make their major league debuts in 2027, 2028 and '27, respectively.
