It's been almost a month since the most successful season in Seattle Mariners history came to an end.
In 2025, the Mariners won their first American League West title and made the American League Championship Series for the first time since 2001, and were one win away from making the World Series for the first time since the organization was established in 1977.
The team won't take the field again together until spring training, but there's could be one honor that can be associated with 2025.
Fifth-year catcher Cal Raleigh made the first All-Star Game in his career and won his first Silver Slugger award this year. He became the first catcher in MLB history to win the Home Run Derby and set the MLB single-season record for home runs by a catcher and a switch-hitter.
Raleigh is one of three finalists for the American League MVP award, alongside New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge and Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez.
MLB Network's Jon Morosi spoke to San Francisco Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey at MLB general manager meetings on Wednesday in Las Vegas and the former Giants backstop shared his opinion on who should win the MVP award.
"You can't describe (Raleigh's season)," Posey said Wednesday. "For him to put up those power numbers, and just overall offensive numbers, and then to do it with great defense, lead his team deep in the postseason, incredible. Truly incredible. Who knows how it will shake out in the MVP race? I'm a big Aaron Judge fan, as well, but my vote would have to go (to) Cal."
Before he joined the Giants' front office, Posey was one of the premiere catchers and players in the major leagues.
From 2009-2021, Posey helped lead San Francisco to three World Series titles in 2010, '12 and '14. He was the NL Rookie of the Year in '10 and NL MVP in '12.
Posey was a seven-time All-Star, one-time Gold Glove winner and five-time Silver Slugger winner. He helped lead Team USA to a gold medal in the 2017 World Baseball Classic. Raleigh will be Team USA's starting catcher in the 2026 WBC.
Posey, being a former catcher, might not have the most unbiased opinion. But as a former MVP catcher himself, he understands how impressive Raleigh's season was.
The winner of the AL MVP award will be announced Nov. 13.
