Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Bryan Woo helped right the tumultuous waters that the team's starting rotation was on in 2025.
Three-of-five Mariners' starters, George Kirby, Logan Gilbert and Bryce Miller, totaled four stints on the injured list this year. Woo missed the final two series of the regular season for right pectoral inflammation. But for the majority of the year, he was one of the best pitchers in the American League.
Woo was recognized for that Wednesday.
The ballot for the American League Cy Young award released Nov. 12. Detroit Tigers lefty Tarik Skubal won the award for the second consecutive year with 198 points, Boston Red Sox southpaw Garrett Crochet finished second with 132 points and Houston Astros right-hander Hunter Brown finished third with 80 votes.
New York Yankees left-hander Max Fried finished fourth on the ballot with 61 votes and Woo finished fifth with 26 points
Woo earned five fourth-place votes and 16 fifth-place votes on the ballot.
In his third year in the majors, Woo earned the first All-Star selection of his career. He posted a 2.94 ERA with 198 strikeouts in 186.2 innings pitched across 30 starts. His games started, innings pitched and strikeouts were all career-highs. It's the first time Woo has has had more than 25 starts since he made his major league debut in 2023.
Woo is the fourth Seattle starting pitcher in the last three years to finish top 10 in Cy Young voting.
George Kirby finished eighth on the ballot in 2023 and Luis Castillo finished fifth in Cy Young voting, also in '23. Logan Gilbert earned the sixth-most points on the ballot in 2024.
Woo is still under team control for the next several seasons. He'll be up for pre-arbitration in 2026. He, and the rest of the club's starting rotation, is under team control through at least 2027.
Woo had a fastball run value of 30, which ranked in the 100th percentile of baseball according to Baseball Savant. He was also one of the most efficient starting pitchers in baseball.
Woo had a strikeout rate of 27.1%, which ranked in the 80th percentile in baseball, and a walk-rate of 4.9%, which ranked in the 95th percentile in baseball.
