The Washington Nationals are also sending Joey Wiemer down to Triple A Rochester with a familiar name back in the majors for the second time this season
The Washington Nationals made one roster move official after announcing Brady House is headed down to Triple A Rochester with Dylan Crews set to make his season debut with the team, but the front office announced another round of roster moves ahead of Tuesday's game.
The Nationals have recalled first baseman and designated hitter Andrés Chaparro from Triple A Rochester with Joey Wiemer also headed to Triple A Rochester to make room.
This will mark the second stint in his third season in the big leagues for Chaparro, who appeared in four games and notched a .222 batting average thanks to his 2-for-3 performance, including a double, in the season opening win against the Chicago Cubs back on March 26. Chaparro will be available but will not start on Tuesday evening when the Nationals take on the Mets after the team released its starting lineup ahead of the opening pitch.
In 35 games with Rochester this season, Chaparro has notched six home runs, eight doubles and 24 RBIs while batting .260, though how he will fit into the everyday lineup will be worth watching through the four-game series as the team announced Dylan Crews as the starting centerfielder for Tuesday's game.
Meanwhile, Wiemer heads to Rochester despite sitting second on the team with a .286 batting average across 32 games and 70 at bats, though the bulk of that production came early in the season. After building on a strong showing through spring training, Wiemer has notched three home runs this season, though is hitting just .200 in the month of May with just four total bases and four RBIs. Ironically, one of those hits came in Monday's loss after his double in the bottom of the third brought in Brady House to put the Nationals ahead, 3-1.
The Nationals will look to get back in the win column in game two of a four game series against the New York Mets with Foster Griffin set to take the mound on Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 6:45 PM on Nationals.TV. Washington will look to end a two-game losing streak after getting back to .500 overall during the Beltway Series this weekend.
