The Brewers called up outfielder Luis Lara nearly a month after signing him to a seven-year, $31 million contract extension.
The Milwaukee Brewers are giving outfield prospect Luis Lara his shot at the big leagues less than a month after signing a seven-year, $31 million deal.
The Brewers announced that they are promoting Lara for their Tuesday doubleheader and will option outfielder Blake Perkins to Triple-A Nashville.
In more roster moves, they also placed infielder David Hamilton on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain and sent outfielder Brandon Lockridge to the 60-day IL.
Still with Nashville at the time, Lara signed the deal to keep him through 2032 with club options through 2035.
After signing the major deal, the 21-year-old Venezuelan outfielder knew it was essential to stay ready for his moment via comments in Spanish through his interpreter.
When looking at his numbers, it’s easy to see why Milwaukee was so invested and couldn’t wait to call him up.
Through 78 games with Nashville, Lara had an impressive .321/.432/.470 slash line with nine home runs, 42 RBIs, and 24 steals.
Compared to his .257 average with Double-A Biloxi last season, it showed a significant upturn for the prospect.

Importantly, Lara has critical versatility with the ability to play all outfield spots and switch hit.
He marks the second prospect that the Brewers have fast-tracked after signing them to a big deal, following in Cooper Pratt’s footsteps.
Pratt signed an eight-year, $50.75 million deal before he debuted on June 16.
It’s a boost for the club that’s enjoying a campaign that has them atop the NL Central ahead of Tuesday play.
