
The San Diego Padres are doing all they can to keep up with the world-champion Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West, but they were given a devastating blow for their 2026 chances already this when it was announced the pitcher Yu Darvish will miss the entire season after elbow surgery.
Darvish, the 39-year-old Japanese native, had the internal brace surgery performed last week, the Padres announced Tuesday.
"I will be working hard on my rehab to be able to throw a ball comfortably again," Darvish wrote in Japanese on social media.
Darvish has pitched 14 big-league seasons, and has been with the Padres since 2021. In his five years, he's 44-37 and his pitched in the postseason three of the past four seasons.
