The Texas Rangers have a chance to shake off some of their road struggles as they go for a series win over the Seattle Mariners.
The road has not been very kind to the Texas Rangers this season.
Coming into play on Thursday, the Rangers have a record of just 32-42 away from Globe Life Field this season.
In fact, it’s been since June that Texas has won a road series, marking seven consecutive series defeats outside of the Metroplex.
On Thursday, the Rangers will have a chance to break that streak as they take on the Seattle Mariners in their final game against a division rival this season.
First pitch is scheduled for 3:10 p.m. CST for the second consecutive game. Fans can catch all the action on Rangers Sports Network and on 105.3 The Fan on the radio side of things.
Jacob deGrom will take the mound for Texas as he makes his 28th start of the season. In 143.1 innings this season, the Rangers ace has posted a 10-9 record with a 3.96 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP, and 174 strikeouts.
In his last start against the Tampa Bay Rays, deGrom went six innings, allowing four hits and two runs while walking just one and striking out seven.
This will mark deGrom’s third start against the Mariners this season. In 10 innings pitched against Seattle this year, he has allowed just one earned run, good for a 0.90 ERA.
On the other side of the ball, Texas hitters will also be battling with a familiar face as Logan Gilbert toes the rubber for the Mariners.
Gilbert comes into play with an 11-9 record, a 3.71 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP, and 176 strikeouts in 165 innings.
Only once this season has Gilbert pitched against the Rangers. Back on July 26 at Globe Life Field, Texas got to Gilbert for three runs in five innings but would go on to lose the game 6-4 thanks to a late-inning rally from Seattle.
With a win, the Rangers would once again pull back to within one game of .500 at 73-74. Coming into play, Texas sits just two games back of first place in the American League West and just 1.5 games back of the AL’s final Wild Card spot.
Following today’s game, the Rangers will hop on a flight to Phoenix, where they will begin a three-game set with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night before returning to Arlington for their last homestand of the season.
