Texas Rangers outfield prospect Paxton Kling went 4-for-5 with five RBI, including a walkoff, as the Saguaros took down the Desert Dogs 8-7.
Monday in the Arizona Fall League belonged to Texas Rangers 20th-ranked prospect Paxton Kling.
Kling went 4-for-5 with a triple, a double, a walk, a run scored, and an astonishing five RBI in the Surprise Saguaros' 8-7 win over the Desert Dogs.
With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth, Kling laced a walkoff single into right field to lift his team to victory.
Kling split time between High-A Hub City and Double-A Frisco during the minor league season.
His promotion to Double-A marked his first appearance in the upper levels of the minor leagues since Texas drafted him in the seventh round out of Penn State. Before transferring to the Nittany Lions, Kling spent time at LSU, including being a part of the 2023 national championship team.
In 2027, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Kling spend the majority of his season with the Roughriders after he spent just five games there this year. It’s likely that Kling would have spent more time in Double-A, but he suffered a broken wrist in June after being hit by a pitch.
No other Rangers prospect appeared in the game for Surprise. Kling is one of nine Texas players on the Saguaros, five of whom are pitchers.
Rangers top prospect Sebastian Walcott is only slated to play two or three times per week in the Fall League, according to GM Ross Fenstermaker.
It should be a much more active day for the Texas farm hands on Tuesday as the Saguaros are back in action, taking on the Rafters.
With still more than a month to go until the Fall League championship game, the Rangers will have plenty of time left to get a look at their nine players on the roster.
As for Walcott, the extra month will give him a chance to get in more reps after he missed much of the minor league season last year.
There’s no doubt that Walcott is knocking on the doors of the big leagues this season and could be an intriguing piece to the puzzle of Texas trying to return to the postseason for the first time since winning the World Series in 2023.
Walcott has been the Rangers' top prospect for a while now and is the highest-rated prospect in the Fall League. Certainly, Texas and their fans are hoping that 2027 is the year we see Walcott reach the show.
