It was a day to remember for the Texas Rangers prospects who took the field in the Arizona Fall League for another Surprise Saguaros victory.

Coming into their matchup on Thursday, the Surprise Saguaros and the Scottsdale Scorpions were tied for second place in the Arizona Fall League standings.

In a battle of two of the AFL’s best, it was the Saguaros who came out on top with an emphatic 17-5 win, and the Texas Rangers had multiple prospects in the middle of the action.

With the win, Surprise moves to 12-8 on the season and claims sole possession of second place in the league.

Just a half game separates the Saguaros from the first-place Peoria Javelinas, who they will do battle against on Friday.

As for Thursday, it was a monster day for Rangers top prospect Sebastian Walcott who is the highest rated player in the Fall League.

Walcott went 3-for-6 with five RBIs while seeing his Fall League batting average climb to .300 on the year.

After striking out in his first at-bat, Walcott ripped an RBI double down the left field line in the third. In the fifth, he smashed a two-RBI single into center field to bring home his second and third runs of the game.

In the sixth, Walcott hit another two-RBI single to score Surprise’s 10th and 11th runs of the game.

Rangers outfield prospect Paxton Kling also got the start in right field and, after an 0-for-5 outing in his last game, had a solid bounce back effort.

Kling had a hit and a walk in four at-bats and wound up scoring runs both times he reached base.

After being retired in his first at-bat, Kling hit a double into left field that allowed Walcott to come around to score.

In the sixth, Kling drew a four-pitch walk as he continued to show his strong plate discipline in the AFL.

Once again, the Rangers top two performing position player prospects were huge in factoring into the win.

On the mound, Texas prospect Mason McConnaughey was the bulk pitcher in the afternoon for the Saguaros.

McConnaughey went four innings and allowed just two runs on two hits with one walk. He also recorded an impressive five strikeouts.

Just over two weeks remain in the Arizona Fall League season as Surprise looks to clinch its spot in the championship game, which is scheduled for November 14.

There’s no doubt that the Saguaros have been playing just as good as anyone and have a real shot to bring home the title.
