Despite uncertainty surrounding the expiration of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement on Dec. 1 and a near-certain lockout that many believe will delay the start of the 2027 season, Major League Baseball is operating business as usual. The league has already announced the Boston Red Sox 2027 regular-season schedule, as well as their participation in the Field of Dreams game in Dyersville, Iowa. On Friday afternoon, the 2027 schedule rollout continued as the league announced the spring training schedules for all 30 clubs.
Per usual, the Red Sox spring training will take place at the team’s facilities at ‘Fenway South’ in Ft. Myers, Florida, with their home games being played at JetBlue Park. Boston’s first game will take place on Feb. 19 and lead up to the team’s regular-season opener in Seattle, taking on the Mariners on March 25.
Here’s what else you need to know about the Red Sox spring training slate:
A New England Tradition
Members of the Boston Red Sox take a moment of silence for Boston Globe baseball writer Nick Cafardo before a spring training exhibition game against Northeastern University at JetBlue Park on Friday 2/22/2019. USA TODAY Network via Reuters ConnectAs has been the case in nearly every season since 2004, the Red Sox will kick off their spring training slate by hosting the Coastal Athletic Association’s Northeastern Huskies in a one-game exhibition. The Huskies will be seeking their first victory over the Sox on Feb. 19 to kick off Boston’s spring slate.
How many games will the Red Sox play?
In total, the Red Sox will play 34 exhibition games, 17 home games and 17 away games. The Sox will split into two units for three split-squad matchups taking place on Feb. 22, March 3, and March 8. The Red Sox will have only two days off throughout their exhibition slate, on March 4 and March 16.

Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY SportsWhile the former “Mayor’s Cup” has been defunct since the 2011 season, the Red Sox and Minnesota Twins, who both call Florida’s Lee County home for the spring, will square off six times for the unofficial Chairman’s Cup. The first matchup between the two sides will take place at JetBlue Park on Feb. 21, while the “rivalry” will shift to Minnesota’s Hammond Stadium on Feb. 26. The final matchup will be the Red Sox's final spring training contest in Florida on March 21.
AL East foes
The Red Sox will face each of their four American League East rivals throughout the spring schedule. The Sox will kick off the major league portion of spring games by heading to Port Charlotte to take on the Tampa Bay Rays on Feb. 20. Their first game against the New York Yankees is set to take place on March 9 at the Yankees’ Steinbrenner Field, with the return matchup set for March 17 at JetBlue Park. In total, Boston will play each AL East team twice, except Tampa Bay, whom they will see three times.

Back in 2026
While the spring training slate, along with the rest of the 2027 season, remains in limbo, the Red Sox will be back in action on Friday night in game two of a four-game set against the Orioles at Camden Yards. Ranger Suarez (5-4, 3.64 ERA) will get the start for Boston opposite Shane Baz (5-14, 4.01 ERA) for Baltimore. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. ET.
