Colorado Rockies pitcher Jose Quintana made start coming off Injured List and team's offense pulled through against Seattle Mariners.
On a night when the Colorado Rockies got starting pitcher Jose Quintana off the Injured List, he went out there and gave them four good innings. But the Rockies found some offense and put things together in defeating the Seattle Mariners 5-3 on Saturday night at Coors Field.
Quintana, in his four-inning effort, gave up five hits, three earned runs, walked one, and struck out two. He also surrendered home runs to Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh and left fielder Randy Arozarena, too. Raleigh now has 23 home runs in a pretty much down season for him, while Arozarena has 26 homers.
After going down 3-0, Colorado started climbing out from being behind. Connor Norby's sacrifice fly in the third inning gave the Rockies their first run, making it 3-1.
In the seventh inning, Jake McCarthy grounded out but got a run home to close the gap to 3-2. TJ Rumfield singled to center field, tying things up at 3-3. Cole Carrigg then came through with a two-run single to center, giving Colorado a two-run lead at 5-3.
Juan Mejia picked up the win in relief for the Rockies and Brennan Bernardino worked the ninth inning to earn his second save.
The Saturday night home victory helped Colorado put an end to some rather tough losses lately. It also delays any further inroads toward 100 losses, too.
The Rockies are now in position to pick up a series win over Seattle on Sunday afternoon in the Mile High City.
Colorado was 3-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight total runners on base. Meanwhile, Seattle was 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left six total runners on base.
For one game, the Rockies did take advantage of those scoring opportunities. They need to do this more and more as the 2026 MLB season comes to a close in a week. If they can do it, then they might just be able to put more distance between them and the century mark of defeats.
This team has shown signs of improvement from a really bad 2025 season. Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer has been running the club on the field all the way from Spring Training until now in his first full season as manager.
Colorado has more wins already than last season's club and also hasn't totally surrendered in games where they were down early. That type of effort is something they can build on into next season.
