On Saturday night, Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman smashed his 40th home run this season. There should be no doubt that he's the team MVP in 2026.
When Hunter Goodman has come to the plate this season for the Colorado Rockies, he's struck fear in some opposing pitchers.
That's for good reason.
Goodman has been the big hitter in the middle of the Rockies' lineup in a season that's not going to finish like the team wanted it to do at all. On Saturday night, in Game No. 161 for Colorado, sent a pitch out of Rate Park in Chicago against the Chicago White Sox.
Goodman joins good company
The big smash gave him 40 home runs this season, marking the first time a Colorado player has reached 40 home runs in a season since Nolan Arenado back in 2019. Yes, that's seven years since it has happened.
But Goodman has not only been a great player on the field, but a solid representative for the organization off of it. Seeing him reach this 40-home run mark gives him something to feel good about as the 2026 MLB season ends for the Rockies on Sunday.
And, there should be little doubt that Goodman becomes the Rockies' Most Valuable Player for this season.
Entering Saturday night's game on the south side of Chicago, Goodman was fourth in the National League in home runs with 39. Now, with his 40 as mentioned earlier, Arenado hit 41 home runs in 2019.
He's now the ninth player in Rockies franchise history to hit 40 home runs. It's the 15th time overall that a player has done so. Arenado hit 40-plus homers in 2015, 2016, and 2019; Vinny Castilla did it between 1996-98; Todd Helton (2000-01); Andres Gallarraga (1996-97); Carlos Gonzalez (2015); Larry Walker (1997); Ellis Burks (1996); and Dante Bichette (1995).
Want some more Goodman home run information? The Rockies catcher becomes the eighth catcher all-time to hit at least 40 home runs in a single season.
Those other catchers include Cal Raleigh (2025), Salvador Perez (2021), Javy Lopez (2003), Mike Piazza (1997, 1999), Todd Hundley (1996), Johnny Bench (1970, 1972), and the legendary Roy Campanella (1953).
Rockies need nucleus around Goodman
Here's what Colorado needs to do entering the 2027 MLB season. Go get a strong nucleus of hitters around Goodman, make them a bit of a fearful group of hitters for opposing pitchers, and put opponents on notice.
Goodman also needs to stay relatively healthy, too. Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer has been watching Goodman and his players all season long. It's a great thing to see what Goodman did on Saturday night. May the Rockies' catcher have more of them to come.
Here's to you, Hunter Goodman.
