Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Tanner Gordon was not sharp early on Thursday, helping the Arizona Diamondbacks get a victory at Coors Field.

By the bottom of the fourth inning, the Colorado Rockies already were down 10-0 to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday at Coors Field. The Rockies, though, did not go down without a fight.

Maybe the home fans can take that away from this 12-8 loss as a positive. The Diamondbacks roll on into their final series this season, looking to get a National League postseason spot. The Rockies are rolling into their last series and will call it a season once that's done.

The Rockies have now lost four straight games, all at home. It's not a pretty way to say "thank you" to the Coors Field faithful, yet it's just been that kind of season.

Tanner Gordon didn't pitch well for Rockies

Colorado starting pitcher Tanner Gordon was beaten up while he was on the mound for Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer. Gordon worked 3.1 innings, giving up 12 hits, 10 earned runs, walked four, struck out one, and gave up two home runs.

Reliever Jimmy Herget worked the next 2.2 innings and gave up four hits, two earned runs, and struck out four.

The Diamondbacks posted a six-run first inning and two-run innings in the second and fourth innings. Arizona added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, pretty much putting a wrap on this one.

Yet the Rockies were not going away quietly. People should take note of this and remember it. Brett Sullivan grounded into a bases-loaded forceout, bringing TJ Rumfield home from third base to kick off the Colorado rally.

Kyle Karros hit his 13th home run this season, a solo shot, in the bottom of the seventh inning to bring the Rockies within 12-2. Then, in the seventh inning, Hunter Goodman, looking to finish up on a strong note, connected for an RBI single as Zac Veen scored. It was 12-3 at that point.

Carrigg smashes 11th home run

Cole Carrigg, who has done more than enough to impress the Rockies' management since coming up, hit a three-run homer. He now has 11 this season and Colorado moved within 12-6.

The team made a final push to get closer in the game. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Zac Veen hit his third homer this season, a solo shot, and Rumfield's RBI double brought home the Rockies' final run.

On the season, with three games left, Colorado is 57-102 overall. That, of course, marks the fourth consecutive season that the Rockies have lost 100-plus games. If the Rockies' fans want some perspective, the Chicago White Sox, a team that had 100-plus losses in the past three seasons, reached the American League postseason on Thursday.

So, it can happen, Colorado fans.

Three more games will take place before the MLB 2026 season comes to a close. The Rockies have a chance to go out on a winning note.
