A lot of eyes have been on Colorado Rockies outfielder Cole Carrigg since his call-up earlier this season. Can he keep on doing the work and finish this season strong?
Cole Carrigg has been learning a lot since the Colorado Rockies called him up from Triple-A Albuquerque. As his MLB schooling continues through this season, Carrigg continues to make his presence felt in the Rockies' lineup.
In his first 228 at-bats in the majors, Carrigg is hitting .263 with an OPS of .789. He's primarily played in center field for Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer. Carrigg has 60 hits, scored 38 runs, hit six home runs, totaled 36 RBIs, and has swiped eight stolen bases.
Carrigg, a native of Modesto, Calif., was drafted by the Rockies back in the 2023 MLB draft. He was a competitive balance draft pick, coming to the team as the No. 65 overall selection.
When one watches Carrigg in the field or at the plate, people have come to see that he's a man of action. Carrigg has shown flashes of incredible play in center field, even going into the ivy at Wrigley Field in Chicago to make a stellar catch.
That type of player is one that can energize the ballclub for a few seasons. Hopefully, Rockies president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta and general manager Josh Byrnes will avoid thinking about trading Carrigg at all.
Carrigg played his college ball at San Diego State, which makes sense as he probably wanted to stay in his home state.
What can Colorado build with Carrigg? A competitive, never-give-up type of ballclub. Carrigg, along with TJ Rumfield, have added sparks to the team. Their overall record is not good at all, once again, this season. Yet, Carrigg can provide a spark that gives this team a big boost.
Rockies fans should keep their eyes glued to Carrigg's development during the rest of this season and into the 2027 MLB schedule. Of course, a work stoppage is on the table for all MLB clubs as the players' union and owners are still at an impasse.
Let's hope the impasse comes to an end before next season kicks off.

Additionally, Norby is one of five Rockies players to post a .950 OPS or better in their first 15 games. The last time this happened was back in 2018.
Those numbers are pretty solid and Norby will look to improve them as this season winds down.
