Can the Colorado Rockies make some headway toward not losing 100 games with a winning series against the St. Louis Cardinals?
The Colorado Rockies had Thursday off in order for them to take a little time away from the field, but to also get ready for another series at Coors Field starting on Friday night.
In this series, the St. Louis Cardinals are coming into the Mile High City for a three-game set. Entering Friday's play, the Cardinals are 70-70 overall with a .500 record. St. Louis currently is 3.5 games out of a National League Wild Card spot.
So, the Cardinals do have some impetus to come in and pick up a series win.
As for the Rockies, well, they are trying not to get any closer to 100 losses. Right now, Colorado has enough space for 13 more losses before hitting the century mark. This season's Colorado team has shown improvement, winning more games than the horrid 2025 squad did.
In their last 10 games, the Cardinals have gone 4-6 but they have won two straight games. The Rockies also have won two straight games and have also gone 4-6 in their last 10 games.
Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer has kept his team focused on one game ahead of them, avoiding any looking ahead. Colorado also could make a push to reach that fourth-place spot in the NL West Division. Can they catch the Giants? It'll be worth watching.
Rockies vs. Cardinals: Probable Starters
Friday, Sept. 4: RHP Ryan Feltner (5-9, 5.84 ERA) vs. Cardinals' TBD
Ryan Feltner has a chance to come out and put forth a really serious effort against the Cardinals. If he can get ahead of hitters and put them down in the count, then he'd be more effective. Let's see if he can get the job done.
Saturday, Sept. 5: RHP Mason Adams (0-0, 3.00) vs. Cardinals' TBD
Can Mason Adams come out and keep the Cardinals' hitters off their stride? Adams also will need some help from the Rockies' offense, so let's see if TJ Rumfield, Hunter Goodman, Mickey Moniak, and others can help out here.
Sunday, Sept. 6: RHP Tanner Gordon (1-4, 5.18) vs. Cardinals' TBD
Yes, Tanner Gordon's record is not good as well as his ERA. But he has shown an ability to showcase his pitching arsenal when needed. Gordon needs to be on his "A" game on Sunday afternoon, or St. Louis will get their bats going early and often.
The Cardinals, as you can see, have not named their starters for this series.
