Colorado Rockies use up seven pitchers, along with two big scoring innings, to dispatch the St. Louis Cardinals.

Talk about going deep into your pitching staff. The Colorado Rockies made good on that deal and put two big-time scoring innings to use, too, on Saturday night.

Cole Carrigg, Adael Amador, and Ezequiel Tovar had two hits apiece and Hunter Goodman recorded two RBIs in helping the Rockies defeat the St. Louis Cardinals 10-7 at Coors Field.

As far as the pitching goes, reliever Brennan Bernardino picked up the victory and Jordan Romano rebounded from his Friday night misstep to earn his 15th save. Matthew Liberatore took the loss for the Cardinals, sending his record down to 5-14.

Mason Adams got the start from Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer, followed by Zach Agnos, Bernardino, Jaden Hill, Nick Frasso, Juan Mejia, and Romano. Those pitchers came into the game and did just enough to keep the Cardinals in check.

Cardinals took early lead

St. Louis jumped out to a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning, but Colorado decided to flex its muscles at the batter's box. A six-run fifth and a four-run seventh inning provided the difference between the Cardinals and the Rockies.

In the fifth, Troy Johnston hit a line drive to right and Carrigg scored to make it 3-1 St. Louis. Johnston reached second base on right fielder Jordan Walker's throwing error. Amador singled to left and Johnston scored, closing the gap to 3-2.

Jake McCarthy walked and Amador scored. Tovar reached third base on a Liberatore wild pitch, tying things up at 3-3. McCarthy and Tovar worked a perfect double steal, with McCarthy taking second base and Tovar stealing home. Catcher Leo Bernal's throwing error allowed McCarthy to reach third base.

Rockies extend their lead

Now, with a 4-3 lead, Connor Norby's RBI single allowed McCarthy to score and give Colorado a 5-3 advantage. Norby then was brought home on a double from TJ Rumfield.

This put the Rockies up 6-3, yet the Cardinals rallied to score two runs and tighten the lead at 6-5.

With the bases loaded and nobody out in the seventh, Goodman singled to left field. Tovar and McCarthy scored, Norby reached third base, and Goodman was able to roll into second base. Carrigg followed with a single to left field, with Norby scoring and Goodman moving on to third base. The Rockies were in control at 9-5.

Zac Veen then pulled off another stellar play, a sacrifice bunt where Goodman crossed home plate. Veen reached first base and Carrigg bumped up to second base. But Colorado was rolling along at 10-5 now. St. Louis added two more runs late in the game, but it didn't matter.

The Rockies really needed to get a win here after what happened on Friday night. The march to avoiding 100 losses continues for Colorado.

This three-game series against the Cardinals wraps up on Sunday afternoon at Coors Field.
