Charlie Condon was looked at for a possible promotion last season to the majors for the Colorado Rockies, but it didn't happen. Is 2027 his time?
First baseman Charlie Condon has rocketed through the Colorado Rockies' minor-league system, playing a full season for the Albuquerque Isotopes in the Pacific Coast League. It's been incredible to see the former Rockies' first-round draft pick put things together rather quickly.
Last season, Condon put together a slash line of .273/.390/.904 with 27 home runs, 98 RBIs, and eight stolen bases.
There was some chatter about Condon possibly being brought up from the Triple-A Isotopes to the major-league ballclub. As mentioned, Condon was a first-round pick (No. 3 overall) for the Rockies in the 2024 MLB Draft out of Georgia. That Southeastern Conference baseball he played in got him all set to start his journey to the big leagues.
Condon keeps learning for Rockies
He's continued to grow and prosper in the minor leagues.
Is Colorado ready to pull him into MLB play in 2027?
Condon stayed relatively healthy all season long at Albuquerque. His play both in the field and at the plate probably was watched very closely by the Rockies' front office.
What about his career minor-league numbers? Condon has put together a slash line of .262/.371/.833 with 42 home runs and 167 RBIs. He's also snagged 14 stolen bases, showing an ability to have some speed on the basepaths.
That 2025 season was pretty incredible for Condon. In May, the Rockies assigned him to the ACL Rockies. Later that month, Condon was promoted to the Class A Spokane Indians. Then, in July, he moved up to the Hartford Yard Goats. Condon also appeared in the National League Futures game during All-Star Weekend, too.
Fast-track growth through minor leagues
In September, Condon was assigned to the Salt River Rafters in the Arizona Fall League.
Last season, Colorado brought him to Spring Training as a non-roster invitee. Then, he was sent to the Isotopes.
Everything about Condon just clicks. He's showed a knack for understanding what it takes to play at a higher level. The Rockies would not move him through their minor-league system as fast as they have if he wasn't clicking on all cylinders.
In 2026, TJ Rumfield occupied first base and more than held his own. Rumfield's gutsy style of play added an extra punch to the Rockies' offense. His defensive play was steady, which Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer more than likely wants to see.
Can Condon, though, maybe earn a spot on the Rockies' big-league roster as a role player? He might be able to come off the bench and give Rumfield at day off.
All of these decisions will be made while the shadows of a potential lockout loom over MLB at this time. Don't be surprised if Condon makes another appearance at Spring Training next season.
