Detroit’s defensive anchor cements his elite status, pairing 27 home runs with 100th-percentile framing to secure another trophy and prove his dominance behind the plate.
This might come as a no-brainer to many fans who have been following along, but for anyone just jumping in because my previous articles about Dillion Dingler winning the Fielding Bible Award weren't enough to draw your attention, perhaps winning a Gold Glove will do the trick.
Dillion Dingler has been raking in awards all offseason long. Those awards have showcased not only his offensive explosion onto the scene, nearly doubling his career home run total and leading the team with 27 home runs, but also his exceptional skills behind the plate.
Dingler put on a fantastic showing nearly every day through the grueling heat and the damning cold that comes with Michigan. The summers are so humid you sweat like you're on a date with a supermodel, mere months after sitting through a freak blizzard during the first couple of weeks of the season.
Through it all in 2026, the Tigers had one man holding the line and doing his job at an exceptional rate. The 2025 Gold Glove winner, Dillion Dingler, has now been awarded his second consecutive Gold Glove.
Truly, this should come as no surprise to anyone who sat down and watched even one Tigers game all season long. Night after night, Dingler showcased skills that not only dropped jaws on a daily basis but also forced fans, opposing teams, and teammates alike to gasp in awe.
Dingler's defensive statistics are off the charts, according to Baseball Savant.
Dingler ranks in the 100th percentile among MLB players in framing (9), placing him among the elite in baseball. He also finished in the 95th percentile in both Blocks Above Average (11) and Pop Time (1.86). Additionally, Dingler finished in the 93rd percentile in Caught Stealing Above Average (5).
Perhaps most impressive is Dingler's Fielding Run Value, where he landed in the 99th percentile with a score of 17.
Nearly all of these numbers represent an improvement from last season, which is a major reason Dingler was able to bring home back-to-back awards. His framing improved from the 91st percentile to the 100th percentile, while his throwing improved from the 83rd percentile to the 95th percentile.
Maybe the most impressive statistic is his 1.86 Pop Time, which measures how quickly Dingler can get the ball from his glove after receiving a pitch to the moment it reaches the covering player's glove at second base. Dingler's time ranks fourth-best in the entire MLB and is a major reason fans watched in awe whenever an opponent tried to steal a base.
During the 2026 regular season, Dingler threw out 13 runners attempting to steal a base out of 52 attempts, resulting in a 25% caught-stealing rate, according to Baseball Savant.
The Tigers' catching position seems to be locking in for the foreseeable future with Dingler and the emergence of Eduardo Valencia, who established himself as a top-end backup during his short stint with Detroit in 2026.
Dingler has proven he has the offense in his bag and has now shown that defense comes just as naturally. With his second consecutive Gold Glove Award, the Tigers have a catcher who continues to establish himself as one of the best defensive players in baseball.
