Detroit’s top prospect silenced skeptics with elite plate discipline and power in Scottsdale, proving why he remains the cornerstone of the franchise's bold mid-season trade strategy.

Quite a few Detroit Tigers prospects made their way to the Arizona Fall League this year to continue learning and growing, both for the organization and themselves. Guys like John Peck, Bryce Rainer and Maddox Long, among others, took over Scottsdale and joined the Scottsdale Scorpions for the fall season.

One other player who headed out west to play for the Scorpions is 21-year-old Zyhir Hope. Detroit's No. 1 prospect joined the organization midway through last season after coming over as part of the Tarik Skubal trade.

Hope is carrying a lot of hope for Tigers fans and the organization. After seeing how well he's played since joining Detroit, there's nowhere for that optimism to go but up.

In the Fall League, Hope has shown excellent plate discipline. He currently sits tied for eighth in the league with 14 walks through 16 games. In 58 at-bats, Hope has collected 14 hits (.241 batting average), driven in 11 runs, hit one home run and scored eight times. However, he has also struck out 18 times, something I'm sure the Tigers are working on with him.

After coming over to the organization, there were some rumblings about Hope's weight. Was he letting himself go a little too much? Did Detroit get a player more like Bartolo Colon in return for Skubal? Those concerns have been put to rest for the time being as Hope continues to produce in the minor leagues and the Fall League.

Hope's .405 on-base percentage ranks among the best in the Fall League and proves he can find ways to get on base, regardless of how he's hitting.

Through the 30 games he played with Erie last season, Hope crushed the ball. He hit six home runs while posting a .269 batting average and a .360 on-base percentage. He also added three doubles, one triple and eight stolen bases during his time with Erie before the season ended, proving to be one of the top hitters in the Tigers' farm system.

Overall, across the Dodgers' and Tigers' minor league systems in 2026, Hope raked. He hit 29 home runs, 20 doubles and drove in an impressive 111 runs while batting .287 and posting a .367 on-base percentage.

Hope also finished with 26 stolen bases and 86 runs scored, further quieting any concerns about his weight affecting his speed or slowing down his production.

Now, Detroit gets to see Hope represent the organization in the Arizona Fall League Fall Stars Game. Meanwhile, the Dodgers couldn't even make it to the World Series with Skubal and will now have to fend off teams like the Mets and Yankees if they want to retain him.

As for the Tigers, they've all but washed their hands of Skubal and turned their attention toward the players they received in return. Hope is already giving Detroit plenty of reasons to be excited about what the future holds.
