Caleb Bonemer has joined an exclusive group of White Sox prospects after reaching 30 home runs in his age-20 season, putting his impressive power production in rare company.
Chicago White Sox prospect Caleb Bonemer entered some elite company this week.
With a home run for the Birmingham Barons on Wednesday night, Bonemer now sits at 12 home runs at the Double-A level on the season. But across 105 games split between Winston-Salem and Birmingham, Bonemer enters the weekend with 30 home runs, 76 RBIs, and a .943 OPS in his age-20 season.
That 30-home run mark is a pretty unique and rare milestone, one that hasn't been seen by a White Sox prospect since Luis Robert Jr. did it back in 2019.
Robert was 21 years old at the time. He started the season in Winston-Salem before being promoted to Birmingham and Charlotte. His bat really took off with 16 home runs in 47 games at the Triple-A level in a hitter-friendly environment. Over 122 total games played in 2019, Robert finished with 32 home runs on the season.
Bonemer still has 17 more games to go before he'll reach Robert's games played total from 2019. The Barons still have 27 more games on the schedule, which gives Caleb Bonemer an outside chance to reach 40.
Bonemer is one of five White Sox prospects in the last 20 years to hit 30-plus home runs in a single season in the minor leagues.
Now, of course, home run totals don't always equal MLB success, but it does show the big power potential that can anchor a lineup at the MLB level.
Even using Luis Robert Jr. as an example, while injuries have always gotten in the way of his career and reaching his full potential, the version of Robert we saw in 2023, when he hit 38 home runs for the White Sox, made him an All-Star and an MVP contender. The power he showed in the minor leagues translated.
Another notable minor league power threat from White Sox history is Ron Kittle.
Kittle was lighting the minor leagues on fire with 40 and 50 home run seasons back in 1981 and 1982. By 1983, he was a 35-home run, 100-RBI player at the MLB level, a season that won him Rookie of the Year and earned him a spot on the AL All-Star team. He finished his MLB career with 176 home runs, including three straight seasons with 25-plus in a White Sox uniform.
It's very rare that you see a prospect with the type of power production we've seen from Caleb Bonemer in 2026. It's even more rare for that player to be 20 years old and playing shortstop.
There's a reason Bonemer is one of the top prospects in the White Sox organization and one of the top prospects in all of baseball. He was selected for the MLB Futures Game this year and seems to have future star written all over him.
The latest milestone is just another example of what he's capable of.
