Sebastian Romero is only 17 years old, but the White Sox international signing is already showing signs of becoming one of the organization's most exciting prospects.

But during the 2026 season, one White Sox prospect is beginning to turn heads, and it might be a player many Sox fans are unfamiliar with.

Romero was part of Chicago's 2026 international signing class, signing for $1.5 million out of Venezuela back in January, the second-largest bonus in the White Sox's class. He's a left-handed hitting outfielder with a projectable 6-foot-2 frame, developing power, solid speed and athleticism, and a track record of putting together quality at-bats as an amateur.
When the White Sox signed him, they were truly looking at the shell of a potential five-tool outfielder. There's a reason Romero was ranked the No. 18 prospect in the organization before ever playing a game. He's a centerfielder who has it all. But there are always questions about how those tools will translate to professional baseball.
This summer, Romero has been playing in the Dominican Summer League for the White Sox, and the early results have been astonishing.
In 11 games, Romero is 15-for-38 at the plate with five home runs and 16 RBIs. He also has two triples and a double. That's a .395 batting average and a .921 slugging percentage, good for a 1.399 OPS on the season.
When you read up on Romero's scouting profile, there's a lot of discussion about the possibility that he could develop into a 15-20 home run hitter in the future. So to see him launch five home runs in his first 38 professional at-bats is certainly an encouraging sign that he might be even more advanced than evaluators initially believed.
You probably won't start seeing national hype for Romero until this time next year. It's very rare for a prospect to be ranked among baseball's top 100 prospects before appearing and producing stateside. At this rate, we could see Romero accomplish that by the end of 2026, but more realistically, the national attention will begin to arrive in 2027 after his 18th birthday.
This is a name every White Sox fan should know. Sebastian Romero has the potential to become the next great international signing made by the White Sox.
