The Philadelphia 76ers appear to be one of six teams still in the hunt for LeBron James.
The Philadelphia 76ers are still in the race to sign free agent LeBron James.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Sixers are still one of six NBA teams that believe they have a chance of acquiring James' services.
"Based on where we are as of 12:08 Eastern on Monday, the Sixers, the [Minnesota] Timberwolves, the [Miami] Heat, [and the Denver] Nuggets, based on everything I've been told all weekend, they all still believe they're in with a chance," Stein said on the 'ALL NBA Podcast' before adding the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers to the mix.
This group of organizations presents steep competition for Philadelphia.
James has serious ties to Miami and Cleveland while the Timberwolves, Nuggets, and Warriors offer serious upside and championship contention.
But the 76ers can offer a blend of all of that.
James has a strong relationship with Philadelphia guard Tyrese Maxey, who is a Klutch Sports agency client. He is also familiar with the 76ers' new President of Basketball Operations Mike Gansey, as he worked for the Cavaliers during James' second stint with the team.
In terms of fit from a basketball perspective, there is arguably no better out there.
James can slot seamlessly into the starting power forward position alongside Maxey, V.J. Edgecombe, Jaylen Brown, and Joel Embiid. His playmaking skills can go on full display while he simultaneously can take a backseat role on the defensive end of the floor.
The weaknesses of Philadelphia as a landing spot for James are the weather, Embiid's health concerns, and possibly the fact there are too many mouths to feed.
Only time will tell if the pros outweigh the cons enough for James to join the 76ers.
