The Philadelphia 76ers could bring in one of LeBron James' closest NBA friends in the coming weeks.
The Philadelphia 76ers signing LeBron James could further affect the roster.
Once the James signing is official, the Sixers will have a full 15-man roster. However, Philadelphia could quite easily cut ties with Dalen Terry or Jabari Walker to make one more open spot.
If Mike Gansey and company decide to do so, PhillyVoice's Adam Aaronson links the 76ers to a free agency move for five-time All-Star and James' former teammate Kevin Love.
Love and James are seemingly as close as two players in the NBA can be, as they spent four seasons together on the Cleveland Cavaliers. They, along with Kyrie Irving, completed the only 3-1 NBA Finals comeback in league history in 2016. The Sixers could make this signing in order to further appease the 22-time All-Star.
The NBA champion is not the player he once was with the Cavaliers or Minnesota Timberwolves. In his best season (2013-2014), Love averaged 26.1 points and 12.5 rebounds on 45.7% shooting in 77 games. While the 76ers would love to have such a version of him this upcoming season, he's much more of an off-court influence and veteran leader.
He could play a role similar to Kyle Lowry last season.
Love spent the 2025-2026 season with the Utah Jazz, recording 6.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game on 39.7% shooting in 37 appearances. He can still shoot from the outside, rebound, and lead, so by no means is signing him a useless move.
However, if the opportunity presents itself to add a more impactful free agent, the 76ers should opt for that route. Whether it's another wing, an additional backup center, or a strong defender for the second unit.
Ultimately, James joined the 76ers with the intention of winning a fifth championship. He even chose them over familiar destinations such as the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat. So, whatever addition gives them the best chance of doing so, the all-time leading scorer should support.
