The Philadelphia 76ers are finally getting a new stadium. Photos have been released that detail what the structure will look like as the 76ers and Philadelphia Flyers will be sharing the arena.
The arena is expected to be ready for use by 2030. A move like this could benefit every single fan who attends. The building will take on a similar look to that of Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. A spherical building that allows all the fans to see every part of the floor.
This will eventually mark the end of Xfinity Arena and all the memories it holds.
The indoor arena has gone through numerous names since its existence in 1996. Throughout that time this arena has seen the highest of highs and lowest of lows. From the Iverson days to the failed run of number one overall draft picks, it all transpired at this arena.
The new stadium has allocated quite a bit of money. The stadium is estimated to cost around 1.9 billion dollars. It’ll be the most expensive stadium in Philadelphia. Not only will the Flyers and 76ers be sharing the stadium, but the new expansion team for the WNBA will also host their games in the stadium as well.
It marks a new era for Philadelphia. With all these new additions, the revenue is expected to skyrocket. When the stadium is finally completed, it’s projected to bring in over six billion dollars for the city as well as its employees collectively over the next ten years after its existence. There will be nearly 15,000 jobs created from the project. The best part about all of this is that there will be no tax revenue involved in this purchase. It’s privately funded by Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment and Comcast.
While it won’t be ready for quite some time, the anticipation has fans scrambling now that the photos were released. Just imagine what it’s going to look and sound like with a full house of 18,000 fans cheering on their home team. One thing about Philadelphia is they love their sports; this stadium helps them to profess that love.
There may be an entirely new team playing in that stadium, but the support will still be there. Hopefully if the management remains the same, the 76ers will be able to pack the house along with their city counterpart, the Flyers, and the expansion WNBA team.
