Jaylen Brown held a block party to give thanks to the fans of the Boston Celtics.
Now that Jaylen Brown is a part of the Philadelphia 76ers, it’s time for him to bid farewell to the fans in Boston.
Brown held a farewell block party in Boston and spoke to the fans to express his gratitude for the city and thanked them for all their support. Brown spent nine years in Boston, and truth be told, they helped shape him into the player he is today. Throughout his career he averaged 20 points on 47.8 percent shooting. His best year came last season, where he averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists.
Throughout his time in Boston, he faced plenty of support with tons of criticism. He was drafted third overall the year after Jayson Tatum was drafted in the very same spot. That was the beginning of the “who's better” debate. For a while, it was Jayson Tatum. There were even talks that Brown should be traded, but the Celtics refused to pull the plug on Brown. That was the best decision they could have made. During the Celtics title run, Brown was the catalyst that helped them make the Finals, which resulted in him winning the Eastern Conference Finals MVP.
Fast forward to now, and the 76ers will now be the beneficiary of a well-rounded superstar. Brown brings a level of tenacity that the 76ers have been missing. While Brown paid his respects, it doesn’t mean he won’t have a chip on his shoulders coming into this season. Remember, while they sang his praises during the block party, they were surely a part of the crowd that wanted him gone in favor of Tatum.
Brown has spoken about the trade to Philadelphia and the disbelief he felt when it first happened. Now that the dust has settled, it’s time for him to join his new teammates and gear up for a season like no other. Seeing his workouts with LeBron James and Tyrese Maxey just goes to show what kind of dedication Brown has.
This is a season where he may be sharing the court with other superstars; Brown is going to be what gets this team in the win column. After all, he was traded for Paul George and two first-round picks. As a franchise, you don’t make a move like that if you don’t plan to make them a key part of the team.
